Day Trip Tour From Naples to Capri
Taking a day trip tour from Naples to Capri has its ups and downs, but it’s definitely worth considering. Most tours include ferry tickets, a guided itinerary, and must-see spots like the famous Blue Grotto, which is breathtaking but heavily dependent on weather conditions.
The pros? You don’t have to worry about planning or navigating, and you get to see the island’s highlights without stress. The downside is that tours can feel a bit rushed, leaving less time for exploring on your own.
Here are the different options you can choose from: a luxury private option for a more personalized experience, a small group day trip for a more intimate vibe, or some unique options like boat tours or hiking trips to experience Capri off the beaten path!
Luxury Private Option: From Naples: Capri, Anacapri, and Blue Grotto Full-Day Trip (4.8 ⭐️/5)
- Visit the Blue Grotto (weather permitting) or take a boat ride, with time to wander through Anacapri and beyond.
Small Group Day Trip Option: From Naples: Capri Guided Tour with Ferry Tickets & Minibus (4.4 ⭐️/5)
- Sail by hydrofoil, visit the Piazzetta and Augustus’ Garden, and enjoy free time to explore this stunning island.
Unique Option: Capri: Caves and Beaches Paddle Board Tour (4.8 ⭐️/5)
- Join a guided paddleboard tour in Capri, gliding past rugged cliffs to hidden beaches and stunning sea caves like the Little Blue and Green Cave.
DIY Day Trip From Naples to Capri
If you’re looking to skip the guided tours and explore Capri at your own pace, a DIY day trip is the way to go. We loved how it allowed us to truly immerse ourselves in the island, from strolling through the beautiful Giardini di Augusto to taking the chairlift up to Mount Solaro for jaw-dropping views.
Most tours focus on cruising around the island, visiting spots like the Blue Grotto and Faraglioni, but with a DIY trip, you get to spend time on land and soak in Capri’s charm without feeling rushed.
The best part about doing it DIY style is the freedom. We had no fixed schedule, so we could decide when to wander the narrow streets or grab a bite at a cozy café. While boat tours around the island sound amazing, there’s something special about experiencing Capri from the inside out. Whether you’re exploring hidden beaches or enjoying the peaceful vibes of the island, a DIY trip gives you a chance to create your own adventure.

DIY Day Trip in Capri Itinerary
7:00 AM - Ferry Naples to Capri
If you’re planning a trip to Capri from Naples, taking the ferry is the easiest and most scenic way to get there. The ferries depart from the Molo Beverello port in Naples, and you’ll land at Marina Grande on Capri. The trip takes roughly 45 minutes, with tickets usually ranging from €20 to €30 each way, depending on the ferry you go for. If you’re an early bird, the first ferry usually leaves around 7:00 AM, giving you plenty of time to explore the island.
Keep in mind that ferries to Capri are seasonal, so schedules can change, especially during the off-season. I recommend checking the latest ferry times and prices on Omio before booking, especially if you’re traveling during peak season, like May and onwards.
It’s super easy to find your tickets and plan your trip through their platform, which makes the whole process even more seamless. Once you’re on the ferry, sit back, relax, and enjoy the views of the Gulf of Naples as you make your way to one of Italy’s most beautiful islands!
8:00 AM - Funicular to Capri Town
Once you arrive at Marina Grande in Capri, getting to the main town area is super easy. The best way to do it is by taking the funicular, a small red train that zips up the hillside. It only costs €2.40 per person, and the line wasn’t long at all when we went (mid-October). The funicular runs back and forth all day with two cars, so it’s convenient and quick.
The ride itself only takes about 5 minutes, but trust me, it’s worth it. When you reach the top, be sure to take a few moments to snap some photos before heading out. The views of the marina below are stunning, and it’s the perfect spot for a quick photo op before diving into the rest of your Capri adventure and you can buy your tickets right at the station.

8:30 AM - Capri Town
Once you arrive in Capri Town, the first thing you’ll want to do is grab a little snack or drink to take with you as you explore.
One of my favorite things to do is stop by the stand right outside the Funicular station and get a Capri Special Drink. It’s fresh orange juice mixed with limoncello, and let me tell you, it’s absolutely delicious. You can even skip the alcohol if you prefer, but the alcoholic version is €11.
Gelato at Buonocore Gelateria
No day in Italy is complete without a stop for gelato, and Buonocore Gelateria is the place to go.
Here’s how it works: head inside, place your order, and pay. Then, take your receipt out front to pick your flavors.
The best part? A cone comes with your pick of two flavors, so you get to enjoy more than one of their delicious options. We went for a classic Stracciatella and a local flavor, Fantasia di Capri.

9:00 AM - Giardini di Augusto
A visit to Giardini di Augusto is a must when you’re in Capri, and luckily, it’s just a short walk from the funicular (about 10 minutes). The entry fee is only €2.50 per person, and it’s totally worth it for the stunning views you’ll get of the iconic Faraglioni rocks and Via Krupp.
Fun fact: Via Krupp was originally built by the wealthy industrialist, Alfred Krupp, as a shortcut from his hotel in Capri town to his yacht in Marina Piccola.
The road was closed for a while but has since been reinforced, and now you can hike it for free! To enter the roadway, pass by the entrance of the Augusto Gardens and you’ll be right at the top of the switchbacks. Keep in mind, that if you climb down, you have to climb back up!

11:00 AM - Lunch
After soaking in the views at Giardini di Augusto, we took our time strolling back to Piazzetta di Capri, making sure to wander through some of the island’s charming alleyways we hadn’t explored yet. This is the best time to get some shopping in, if you are into luxury brands!
For lunch, we headed to Pulalli, a cozy spot right under the clock tower. The food was absolutely delicious, though definitely on the pricier side, but the location made it totally worth it. We made a reservation ahead of time by emailing them, and I’d highly recommend doing that, especially if you want a seat with a view!

12:30 PM - Bus to Anacapri
When you’re ready to explore a bit more, hop on the bus from Capri to Anacapri, it’s a smooth and easy ride. Tickets are available for purchase directly at the bus terminal, and make sure to get in the correct line (the staff is super helpful if you need guidance).
The buses are small, but we only had to wait for one to come by. It’s a quick and fun way to get up the island, and trust me, the views from Anacapri are well worth the ride! You can find the bus terminal here: Bus Terminal / Ticket Office.

1:00 PM - Chairlift to Mount Solaro
One of the absolute highlights of our trip to Capri was the chairlift to Mount Solaro. It’s a single-person chairlift that takes you from the bottom of the hill all the way to the highest point on the island, about 15 minutes of pure relaxation. Don’t worry; the chairlift is only a few dozen feet off the ground, so it’s not as scary as it sounds!
The panoramic 360º views at the top are honestly jaw-dropping, such a perfect spot for photos. The round-trip ticket costs €14 per person, and it’s totally worth it for the incredible views you get at the top.
There’s a sit-down restaurant up there if you’re craving a proper meal, but if you’re just looking for something light, there’s also an affordable bistro with drinks and snacks, both offering the same stunning views. If you’re in Capri, don’t miss this experience, it was such a memorable part of our day!

3:30 PM - Transport back to Marina Grande
Keep in mind that you will need to grab your ferry back to Naples before the sun sets. The last ferry leaves right before sunset, and if you miss it, you will have to stay the night (and it is PRICEY!). If you are just in the Capri area, you can take the funicular back down the hill or walk down. We were in Anacapri and ended up walking back to the Marina.
Here are all the options to get back to Marina Grande after your day in Capri:
- Bus: The bus is an affordable option, but be prepared for longer lines, especially towards the end of the day. It’s a quick and easy way to get back once you are on the bus. However, if you’re in a rush, it might not be the best choice.
- Taxi: A taxi is a unique and fun way to get back down since they are custom convertible cars, offering a bit of luxury for the ride. However, it can get pricey, so it’s best if you’re in the mood for a treat or sharing the cost with a group. We were quoted €20 for a ride from Capri to Anacapri.
- Walking: Walking is a great option if you’re up for some exercise, and it’s all downhill and all stairs, making it manageable. The views along the way are gorgeous, so it’s a lovely and peaceful way to end the day, though it takes a bit longer. It took us just 30 minutes to get from the chairlift to the Marina.

Marina Grande
Marina Grande is a charming little port that’s perfect for soaking in the atmosphere before you head back to Naples. The buildings lining the marina create a colorful backdrop, and there’s something so peaceful about sitting by the water, watching the boats come and go.
I recommend getting there early to avoid rushing for the ferry back, and while you’re at it, grab a drink from one of the cafes and enjoy some people-watching. It’s a perfect way to wind down after a day of exploring Capri.

5:00 PM - Ferry Capri to Naples
The last ferry of the day from Capri to Naples usually leaves around 7:00 PM, but it’s always a good idea to check the schedule in advance, especially if you’re traveling during peak season.
