One Day in Positano

Beach Time

Breakfast in Positano is all about starting your day with a view. You can keep it chill and enjoy breakfast at your hotel, with fresh pastries and a strong espresso, bonus points if your spot comes with a killer view of the sea or the colorful town. It’s a cozy, relaxed way to soak up the morning vibes before heading out.

Sunset at Positano beach with people relaxing on the sand and boats on the water showcasing coastal views for a 1 day in Positano itinerary.

Or, you can take your breakfast right down to Positano Spiaggia beach and eat by the waves. Pro tip: get there early! The free beach section is pretty small, and seats fill up fast. There’s nothing like starting your day with coffee in hand, toes in the sand, and the sound of the waves rolling in.

Beach: Positano Spiaggia

Colorful hillside houses of Positano with tourists on the beach capturing photos and enjoying the view perfect for a 1 day in Positano itinerary.

Positano Spiaggia is absolutely breathtaking, but if you’re eyeing the free section, you’ll need to get there early, it’s small! During the high season, the sunbeds go fast, too. Expect to shell out around €70+ for two sunbeds and an umbrella.

If you’re after a bit more peace and quiet, Fornillo Beach is your go-to. Just a 10-minute walk from Positano’s center, it’s a bit less crowded but just as beautiful. You’ll enjoy the same gorgeous views and a refreshing swim, with more space to stretch out and relax. This beach actually has a slightly better angle to get more sunlight during the later half of the day.

It’s a more relaxed vibe, offering an ideal retreat to unwind and enjoy the stunning scenery without the hustle and bustle. Also, the perfect place for a more chill beach day without sacrificing the stunning scenery.

If you’re craving a quick bite with a view, Bar Paradiso is your go-to. You order at the counter, grab your drinks, and head up to a small deck overlooking the beach. It’s casual and affordable, perfect for a chill break between beach hangs. Plus, if you want to enjoy your meal on the sand, you can easily grab a takeaway. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s just the right vibe when you’re in the mood for something simple and low-key.

For the ultimate beach picnic, Delicatessen S.N.C. has you covered. Grab some fresh deli meats, cheeses, and snacks, and you’re all set to feast by the water. The best part? You can bring wine and beer (even in glass!), so it’s easy to make it feel like a little beachside celebration. It’s perfect for when you want to enjoy good food without the need for a sit-down restaurant.

If you’re after lunch with a view, Il Capitano is the place to be. The food is fresh, flavorful, and made to perfection, but the real star is the breathtaking view of the coast. It’s the best place to relax, enjoy a meal, and take in the amazing views. When you’re ready to treat yourself to something a little more special, this place is the way to go. You’ll walk away feeling full, happy, and with memories of an unforgettable meal.

A stroll through Positano’s town is a must for anyone looking for the local flavor (literally and figuratively). We couldn’t resist picking up a few unique items, and the best part is that you’ll always have a beautiful view of the coast, no matter where you’re walking. It’s the perfect mix of shopping and sightseeing.

You’ve got to stop by Valenti for a limoncello tasting if you want a true taste of the Amalfi Coast. This family-run distillery offers a variety of limoncellos to sample, and we loved hearing the stories behind the drink while savoring the refreshing flavors. The views here are just as incredible, picture-perfect panoramas that make the experience even more special. It’s the perfect way to unwind after some shopping and leave with a newfound appreciation for this zesty lemon liqueur.

The streets are full of shops selling everything from colorful ceramics to fresh lemons and top-notch leather goods. Be sure to stop by Emporio Della Ceramica for some unique summery kitchen pieces. I love all the olive oil dispensers and gorgeous bowls.

You can also have custom-made leather sandals made in just 20 minutes at Rallo Antonio. He makes them perfectly for your feet, and you get to design the whole thing. You can expect to pay around $25-$145 (€23-€135), depending on what style you go for. If you opt for something simpler, it could cost a bit less. But custom sandals made just for you in Positano? Totally worth it!

Roaming the streets of Positano is like being transported into a dream. Best Snacks in Positano

If you’re in the mood for something sweet and refreshing, lemon sorbet or granita is the perfect treat. We grabbed some from a local shop, and it was the perfect pick-me-up after our walk. The tangy lemon paired with crushed ice is super refreshing and captures the essence of Positano’s famous lemons. It’s a simple yet delicious way to cool off while enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

There’s no better way to end a day in Positano than with a sunset boat ride. As the sun starts to dip, the views from the water are absolutely breathtaking, think colorful cliffs, shimmering waters, and that perfect golden glow. We sipped on prosecco while taking it all in, feeling like we were in a postcard.

Dinner

Dinner in Italy is a whole vibe, and let’s just say, it’s definitely wayyyy later than what we’re used to. Some places don’t even open until after 7 pm, so if you’re planning to dine at a popular spot, it’s definitely a good idea to make a reservation ahead of time. We found that calling ahead or sending a WhatsApp message was the easiest way to secure a spot. If you’re not sure where to go, your hotel can also be a great help in securing a reservation, which takes the stress out of finding a place last minute.

We had an amazing dinner at Il Capitano, and honestly, it didn’t disappoint. The views were breathtaking, overlooking the coast, which made for an unforgettable dinner backdrop. The food was delicious, and the service was spot on, friendly and attentive, without being overbearing. It was the perfect mix of great atmosphere, fantastic food, and attentive service, making it an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a memorable meal in Positano.

How to get around Positano

Narrow Positano street at night with lemon shop display and couple walking together capturing the charm of 1 day in Positano.

Getting around Positano is all about walking, and we mean lots of walking! The town is built into the cliffs, so be ready to climb a ton of stairs and navigate some steep hills. It’s definitely a workout, but honestly, it’s one of the best ways to soak in the views and explore the charming streets. You’ll find yourself wandering down narrow alleys and popping into cute shops along the way. There are really no alternatives since most of the streets are pedestrian-only.

Note: Just make sure you wear comfy shoes because you’ll be doing a lot of exploring on foot!
