How to Get Hilton Diamond Status Benefits
There are a few different ways to get Hilton Honors Diamond status. The most straightforward way is to stay a lot of nights. 42 to be specific. You will get upgraded to Hilton Honors Diamond status by staying 42 nights, 21 stays or earning 84,000 base points in one year.
Note: These new requirements are reduced by quite a bit. Before the pandemic where you needed 60 nights, 30 stays, or earning 120,000 base points. Take advantage now while you can!
The easiest way to get upgraded to Diamond is through credit card perks. There are a handful of credit cards that will automatically upgrade you to Silver, Gold, or even Diamond. With a credit card upgrade to Silver or Gold on some cards you also receive the qualifying nights for those levels (Silver: 7 nights; Gold: 28 nights). This means there is a smaller threshold to reaching that Diamond status!

Currently, we have been able to take advantage of the Hilton Diamond status extension. Since the beginning of 2020, they have been rolling over all nights that have counted toward your current status through 2023. This means even if you haven’t traveled the past 2 years, you still have those nights you earned in 2019 that you can add to for the next year! This makes it a bit easier to reach that coveted 42 nights and reach Hilton Diamond status.

Free Breakfast

This is by far our most frequently used perk of the Hilton Honors program. Luckily, you can also get this benefit at the Gold Level. Since there are 18 brands in the Hilton collection, each brand has a different standard. The newest version of breakfast included is actually a daily food and beverage credit to be used on property. We usually prefer the buffet breakfast but with the pandemic, a lot has been changing.
Free Upgrades

As a Diamond member, you will be first in line for the best rooms and upgrades available. Now with the new standards at Hilton, you will get an email a few days before your stay saying you’ve been upgraded. You can always expect the best rooms in your selected room type or an upgrade to the room type above you. We’ve even been upgraded to a penthouse corner suite, overlooking Copacabana beach!
Executive Lounge Access
Our absolute favorite perk of being a Hilton Diamond Member is the executive lounge access. There is nothing better than coming back from a day exploring the town (or working!) and heading to the executive lounge for “happy hour.” These usually include free beer and wine and some sort of snack. This really ranges wherever we go, but we’re always pleased with a cold beer and a few snacks before heading out to dinner. Some lounges are even open during the day for coffee, soda, and water.
5th Night Free

Now, the best “bang for your buck” perk is the 5th night free. This benefit is not exclusive to Diamond members and can actually be accessed by both Gold and Silver status members. You can active your 5th Night Free by booking 4 nights on points and getting a 5th night free. There is nothing special you need to do except book a 5-night stay and you can see that you are only charged the points for 4 of them. We have found no exceptions to this rule and use it quite often! The best part is it works at any hotel. So if you book 4 nights on points at the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, you still get the 5th night free. That is worth a minimum of $2,000 depending on the time of year!
100% Points Bonus

If you are staying with Hilton’s consistently (or using the Hilton credit cards), you will be earning some great Hilton points! Hilton Honors points can be used for free stays anywhere in the world. By being a Diamond member, you receive a 100% bonus on points. That’s double what a non-member would be receiving!
Priority Check-In

When travel is really booming and you are heading somewhere in peak season, this perk can come in very handy. At large hotels, especially, there will be a separate Hilton Honors check-in line. If the line is long to check-in, you are usually able to walk right up to the desk to check in, saving quite a bit of time. This came in very handy when we were checking in to a hotel downtown on New Year’s Eve. We saved over an hour by skipping the line altogether.
48 Hour Guarantee

The Diamond 48-hour guarantee is especially helpful for booking a last-minute trip to a sold-out destination. This perk guarantees that you will be able to book a room at the hotel, regardless if they don’t have rooms available. This means you only need to book 48 hours or more in advance and you will be able to get a room!
Diamond Desk

The Diamond desk is a little-known benefit of being a Diamond member. We have found the Diamond desk to be extremely helpful in odd situations. Sometimes you may need to call customer support and Hilton has designated an entire team to help Diamond members. This means you will get prompt and helpful service when you need it most. They have helped us switch reservations, use our points, and find the best hotel to serve our needs abroad.
