The local restaurants offered a great range of options, from casual spots serving fresh seafood to more refined dining experiences, so we never ran out of delicious meals to try. Overall, the atmosphere was inviting and allowed us to unwind and savor our time away without the noise and hustle of the busier areas.

Old Phuket Town - best for history & calm
Old Phuket Town offers a refreshing change from the typical beach scene, giving you a chance to dive into the island’s rich history and vibrant culture. Although it’s further from the beaches, it was conveniently located near the pier for boats heading to Phi Phi Islands, making it a great spot to combine history with ease of access.
With its colorful Chinese-Portuguese buildings, local eateries, and unique shops, it’s the perfect spot for a leisurely day of exploring. It’s a great area to explore on foot, too, as the narrow streets and lack of parking make it tricky to get around by car. While shopping malls offer a great variety of local and international brands, it’s the charming, traditional atmosphere of Old Phuket Town that makes it truly stand out.
Note: Don’t miss the weekly Sunday Night Market for some delicious food and local handicrafts.

Rawai Beach - best for island vibes
Rawai Beach, located at the southern tip of Phuket, offers a more relaxed vibe compared to the busier parts of the island. While it’s not the best spot for sunbathing or swimming, the beach is lined with shady trees and serves as a launching point for boats heading to nearby islands. The small-town feel makes getting around easy, so if you’re in the mood for a night out, bar-hopping is a breeze, and you can also enjoy the stunning views from Promthep Cape just to the west.
When we visited Rawai Beach, we immediately felt the peaceful, local vibe that made it a perfect escape from the crowds. The beautiful sunrises added to the charm of the place, giving us that serene feeling we were hoping for.

Bang Tao - best for luxury & peace
Bang Tao Beach, found along Phuket’s western shoreline, offers over six kilometers of sand, making it one of the longest beaches on the island. It’s a great spot for those looking for a mix of luxury and tranquility, with modern beach clubs at the southern end and more laid-back reggae bars further north.
While the southern part of the beach is where most of the hotels are located, the northern end remains peaceful and quiet, with only a few small beach bars, offering the perfect escape from the more crowded areas of Phuket.
When we visited Bang Tao Beach, we immediately loved the peaceful, quieter vibe that made it perfect for relaxing and slowing down. It was the ideal spot for riding bikes along the coast, and we spent plenty of time unwinding in the calm surroundings. We also discovered that the northern part of the beach gave us easy access to Banana Beach and Airplane Beach, two beautiful, lesser-known spots where we could enjoy a more private experience.
Keep in mind this is quite far north, so it’s close to the airport and attractions on the north end, it’s an hour or more to get to the popular spots in the south, like Old Town Phuket or Rawai Beach.
