Best Travel Credit Cards for Long Term Travel:

American Express Platinum

American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card

Although this card comes with a hefty annual price of $695, it has proved to be well worth it year after year. With full-time travel, this card has quite a few benefits that can be used easily and often.

The signup bonus is usually a huge factor in choosing a new card. With the American Express Platinum, you can receive anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 bonus points depending on when you sign up. This can be used for travel redemption through the American Express Travel portal for $1,000 – $2,000. Our 60,000 sign-up bonus in 2019 got us two one-way tickets from Los Angeles, California to Bangkok, Thailand, for free.

Travel Benefits

As far as travel goes, there are a handful of other benefits that have saved us money while traveling. The card comes with a Priority Pass membership. This gives access to over 1,300 lounges around the world with a free guest included (perfect for the two of us). Meaning every time you fly, you can look forward to free beer & wine, snacks, and some space away from the craziness that is airports. It also comes with Centurion Lounge access. This benefit is only available to cardholders of the American Express Platinum, Delta Skymiles Reserve, and Centurion Members.

You also receive a $200 credit for airline incidentals for your airline of choice which is perfect for checked bags and inflight purchases. When booking flights directly through airlines, Amex gives 5X points to be used for more travel. The weekly offers from Amex also often include travel-related products and services (cruises, hotels, suitcases, etc.).

The Platinum card comes with a $100 credit for a Global Entry or TSA Pre-Check applications (Note: Global Entry includes TSA Pre-Check) every time your account renews (4 years). You also get automatic upgrades to Gold status at Hilton and Marriott.

Besides the annual price, the only other downside is that it is an American Express card and is not accepted everywhere in the world quite yet. We have found that Visas and Mastercards are the more accepted credit cards, especially in Southeast Asia.

The American Express Platinum Card is one of our top go-to’s for all things travel. These are just a few of the top categories we love about our Amex, but there are a ton of other benefits to take advantage of.

Chase Sapphire Preferred

Chase Sapphire Travel Credit Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is a great travel-related card for a fairly reasonable annual price of $95. Along with no international fees, it is a Visa card which means that is accepted anywhere that takes credit cards.

The signup bonus ranges from 50,000 to 100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards. The Ultimate Rewards points are considered to be some of the best in the industry. They have really great value and can be transferred to a ton of other providers. On travel redemptions, you can get up to $750 worth of travel with the current sign-up bonus (60,000 points).

You also receive 5X points on travel booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards and 2X on all things travel including hotel stays, rental cars, cruises, trains, buses, taxis, tolls, and parking.

Since it is a Visa and has a 2X bonus of travel purchases we use this for most of our spending while traveling full-time.

Hilton Honors American Express

Hilton Honors Travel Credit Card

Since we are loyal Hilton Honors members, this card works wonders for us. With no annual fee or international fees, it’s an easy win among travel credit cards. By using this card on any Hilton reservation, you automatically earn 7X points on your stay! That means you can earn free nights seven times faster! With the automatic upgrade to Silver status, you can start earning even more points faster! You also receive 5X points on US dining, groceries, and gas.

Since this card is heavily US-based, we only use this card for our Hilton stays or if we are close to reaching a points goal for a certain hotel.
