What Our Jakarta Trip Cost

Entry Fees

Total: $67

The cost is 500,000 IDR per person, payable in cash only. Make sure to obtain IDR beforehand, or you can use the ATM there, but there could be a line, and I am unsure what the fees are. Additionally, you can purchase an e-visa ahead of time and skip the lines altogether.

Flights

Total: $310

As for the cost of flights to our Jakarta trip, we spent $310. We flew from Manila to Jakarta on Cebu Airlines since we were trying to make the most of our time in Southeast Asia. This total includes what we had to pay extra for our carry-on luggage despite being within the size limit, as the airline only allows up to 7kg for carry-on items.

Accommodations

Total: $500

Average: $71 per night

After much experience traveling in Southeast Asia, we have learned that booking branded hotels in bigger cities is the way to go. While the cost may be a bit higher than we prefer, with our budget set at $45 per night, the comfort and peace of mind that comes with a clean and comfortable place to sleep is worth it. We want to spend our time on things other than worrying about the quality of our accommodations or dealing with unpleasant surprises. By sticking to branded hotels, we can rely on a certain level of cleanliness and comfort, allowing us to enjoy our travels without any unnecessary stress.

Food & Drink

Total: $220

Average: $31 per day

Average: ~ $15 per person per day

During our week-long trip to Jakarta, we had the opportunity to indulge in some of the most delicious and affordable food we have ever tasted. From the bustling street food scene to the upscale international restaurants, there was no shortage of culinary delights to explore.

One of the highlights of our trip was the street food tour, where we sampled various traditional Indonesian dishes such as nasi goreng, sate, and gado-gado. We also had our share of international cuisine at some fantastic restaurants. And all for only $220 for the entire week!

Transportation

jakarta indonesia trip

Total: $101

Average: $14 per day

We used Grab for transportation throughout our trip. Grab is the Uber service of Southeast Asia, and in Jakarta, it is incredibly affordable. Although traffic can be horrendous in Jakarta, the ride shares are still cheap. If you can avoid rush hour in the mornings and evenings, it’s even better. Once, we were stuck in traffic for over 90 minutes, but the ride still only cost us $7 USD.

Excursions

Total: $3

We did not end up paying for any excursions during our stay. Instead, we planned our own food and walking tours as we usually do. Our only expenses were donations to a church we visited in Kota Tua. One thing we had wanted to do but needed more time for was to visit the Ancol Dreamland theme park, which would have cost around $40 USD per person.

SIM Cards

Total: $16

We purchased our SIM cards through Airalo, which allowed us access to data as soon as we landed in Jakarta and called a Grab. We got 5 GB for the week, which was more than enough.
