Best USA Roadtrips:
Route 66 Road Trip
States: California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois
Route 66 is absolutely one of the ultimate road trips for the US. Traveling back in time to Route 66’s heyday from the 50s is the perfect way to do any road trip. From quirky homemade monuments (like the scarecrow at the Cars on the Road in Kansas) to old school diners with jukeboxes (like Midway Cafe in Texas), you get a little bit of everything on this road trip across the US.
We took ours from California all the way to Chicago in 10 days. I would highly recommend a full two weeks in order to enjoy all the sights to the fullest as we still had to cut out quite a bit. We also took Route 66 to Chicago and came a different route home (through Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Nevada) just to mix it up.

Pacific Coast Highway Road Trip
States: Washington, Oregon, California
Who doesn’t dream of driving up the coast of California in a convertible? Just me? Didn’t think so. Pacific Coast Highway is the epitome of a dream road trip through California up the west coast of the US. Starting up in the state of Washington and hugging the coast all the way through to San Diego, this is one of the most scenic roads you can get in the US.
Taking this drive in the warmer months is definitely the best time of year for this road trip. Once you are into Southern California, it really doesn’t matter the time of year but heading into northern California, Oregon, and Washington, especially along the coast, the weather can get chilly and in some places snowy!

Southwest Road Trip
States: Arizona, Utah, Nevada
Besides the possibility of hitting 6 national parks (or more!) along the way, the best part of this road trip is the ability to take it in the off-season. The winter months are mostly out of commission for the rest of this list (especially the next one) but it’s one of the best times to do the Southwest Road Trip, especially if you are looking to avoid baking in the heat and all the crowds.
Think red rocks and plenty of hiking, off-roading, stargazing, and swimming in rivers. It’s a dream trip and an absolute blast. I guarantee you will see some of the best sunrises and sunsets you will ever see here on this trip. Our favorite sunsets were at the Little Painted Desert Park in Arizona and Canyonlands National Park in Utah.
